The End Of Season Party 2006

The End-of-Season Party at The Carvynick Country Club

It is getting on for 11pm on Friday 25th August - the night air is cool and draughty with just a touch of mizzle (a mixture of Cornish mist and drizzle) to persuade the most ardent partygoers to stay inside the marquee where Eric Randle, the owner of Carvynick Country Club and home of Itchyfeet RV Park, has borrowed the microphone from the disco DJ and is in the process of thanking his staff for a hard worked season.

In my time in the Army, an officer had to earn the respect accorded to his rank by the way he treated his staff whilst managing to complete the job in hand properly and on time – and from what I can see, Eric has earned that same respect from his staff by the way that he acknowledged that the success of the Club and RV Park was in a very large way due to the staff who administered the site. On the other hand nobody could fault Eric’s foresight and planning from the day he took on the Country Club and his vision and financial gamble in planning and building the RV Park, arguably the premier dedicated RV Park in the UK - if not the Continent. His family are renowned for their generosity in the functions they frequently arrange in the furtherance of the business but on this occasion, the function was arranged specifically by Eric to say thank you to his staff for a very successful summer season at Summercourt – and when I say staff, I mean every single person who has, in any way whatsoever, had occasion to lend a helping hand on site, from his right-hand man, his son Michael, through all the various tradesmen who maintain the place, right down to the odd-jobbers who lend a hand when requested from time to time.

Among the first arrivals were Terry, the electrician and Dave ,the Plumber

followed quickly by Sue The Manageress and her husband Ian

together with Andy, the computer guru with his wife Tanya.

Followed swiftly by a couple of dozen other members of the staff who all quaffed a couple of glasses of ‘Dutch’ courage before they found the electric power point ready to warm up the disco and party.   One item that does deserve special mention here is our congratulations must be passed onto Sue, our omnipresent Receptionist who has just been promoted to Resort Manageress – and we cannot think of anyone who is more deserving of the title – Well Done, Sue – and to the rest of the Staff on the success of this season.

Visitors have ranged from the ‘Monaco Camelot’ to the ‘Forest River Tsunami’ to the unmistakable ‘Grand Sport’ by Dynamax.
